As a not-for-profit organization, we love to “give back” to our community, including 200+ quilts a year to many venerable, local community organizations.
SOUTH-FLORIDA FAIR PARTNERSHIP
For over 25 years, the Guild has conducted an annual quilt-block contest with the South Florida Fair. We assemble the winning, themed blocks into a beautiful quilt which is exhibited all seventeen days of the Fair each January.
Throughout the Fair, we engage children (and often their parents) in quilt-related activities. We also demonstrate hand and machine, traditional and art quilting, and answer hundreds of questions about quilt-making and care. Each year, we display a selection of past Fair quilts and visitors love seeing the ones they remember from their previous visits.
OTHER COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
Guild members join with other community organizations to display quilts, lecture, or demonstrate quilting techniques. Our collection of Fair quilts was showcased at the Delray Beach Cornell Museum and the Mancuso World Quilt Show – Florida.
CREATIVE QUILTING OPPORTUNITIES
Our Community Outreach activities provide lots of opportunities for your creative expression, including these examples:
Each year, you are invited to submit a block supporting that year’s South Florida Fair theme. If your block is selected in the anonymous jury process, it will be be sewn into that year’s quilt and exhibited at the Fair, and it will become part of history. And, if your block wins one of three prizes, it will be given a place of honor in the finished quilt, and you will receive a cash prize.
You are invited to make quick, creative, small quilts for these admirable programs. This 24” high “Welcome Home” wall-quilt is for a local, hard-working family buying their first home through Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County. The Project Linus quilts are easy and quick – a great project to perfect your piecing, quilting, and binding skills. Directions for both are on the Guild website, click here to download and print. Help is available at our community outreach “Sew-In “days a few times each year.
Small Quilt Auction
One of the favorite activities at our quilt show, “Quilts of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” is the small quilt auction. Make a small quilt (click here for rules) and watch the bids go higher and higher in the silent auction. When your quilt is “sold,” be proud that your work is bringing someone else pleasure and know that you are helping to support the Guild’s community projects and activities.
Annual Opportunity Quilt
Also a themed quilt, you can submit a block to help support the Guild’s community outreach programs. The creative themes have included birdhouses, under-the-sea, tropical flowers, butterflies, a village, and many others.
